Everybody on board! - Vocabulary building

Mensaje por muna »

Flying and visiting new places is always very exciting but have you ever thought about the importance of being familiar with the vocabulary related to this topic? Have you ever tried to remember the specific words that you need at the airport? And what’s more, have you ever wondered who those people that make our flight safe and comfortable are called?

Let’s check that!

When you arrive at the airport, you check in for your flight at the check-in desk. Once you have shown your passport and gone through security, you head to the departure lounge where you wait until your flight is called. When this happens, you go through the departure gate and get onto the plane. The plane then takes off from the runway…

There are several people at the plane who take care of your safety and comfort. Flight attendants are the most visible ones. Besides taking care of you, they serve food and drinks and respond to any question or doubt that you may have. Flight attendants are generally helped by the stewards who are of great help to flight attendants during the flight. They also serve food and drinks and assist passengers during the flight.

And, we cannot forget the persons that make it possible for us to be in the air. The Pilot in Command (or PIC) is the person who directly operates the control of the plane and the First Officer (or Co-Pilot) is the one who helps the PIC and shares the control of the aircraft.

We also use Cabin Crew to refer to the flight attendants plus the stewards, and Technical Crew to refer to the PIC plus the First Officer.
