This over-the-top comedy revolves around a mahjong championship title that is up for grabs. Everything that leads up to the showdown is frivolous slapstick, with the exception of the various pointers on winning the game.
With a title like Kungfu Mahjong, expect a certain amount of, what else, kungfu to be included in the proceedings. The martials arts are provided by Yuen Qiu and Yuen Wah, last seen as the hilarious landlords in Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle.
The pair leads the cast here with Yuen Qiu in a character similar to the fierce landlady she portrayed in Hustle, right down to the cigarette that’s perpetually dangling from her lips.
